2015 is an exceptional year with over 40 of the highest tides occurring, including the tide of the century. These offer the opportunity to engage in a number of activities and to rediscover landscapes that are a tribute to the beauty of the Manche area.
High tides are the consequence of the gravitational pull of the sun and moon and the earth rotating on itself. A tide is considered high when its tidal coefficient rises above 100. Tides of the century occur more rarely, approximately every 18 years, with a tidal coefficient rising above 118 !
This event offers a promising time to engage in outdoor activities such as beach fishing, surfing, and visiting the inter-tidal zone or the oyster and mussel farms with the high tide horse teams. Enjoy the Normandy fresh air with family or friends, and watch the sea galloping in while you savour delicious trays of seafood.
Why not book your next holidays in Manche to enjoy the high tides or the Tour de France 2016 Grand Départ from June 29th to July 4th, 2016 ?
