  Grand Départ 2017 : Manche will pass on the baton to Düsseldorf Published Wednesday 27 January 2016 The official presentation of the Tour de France 2017 Düsseldorf Grand Départ took place on 14th January 2016, in Paris. Representatives of the 2016 Grand Départ were present: Philippe Bas, President of the Departmental Council of Manche and Jean-François Le Grand, President of the Association for the Tour de France 2016 Manche-Normandie Grand Départ.

After Normandy in 2016, the 2017 Tour de France will start out from Germany !

 

After the official announcement of the 2017 Tour de France Grand Départ in Düsseldorf last 22nd December, the baton was symbolically passed on at the German Embassy in Paris on 14th January 2016, in the presence of Christian Prudhomme. The Tour Director chaired this meeting between representatives of the 2016 Grand Départ, Philippe Bas and Jean-François Le Grand, and Thomas Geisel, Mayor of Düsseldorf, representing the 2017 Grand Départ.

 

The official passing on of the baton will have to wait until 24th July 2016 and the arrival of the Tour de France on the Paris Champs Elysées.

 

In the meantime, Thomas Geisel and Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany were both officially invited by Philippe Bas to come for the 2016 Tour de France Grand Départ in Manche, from 30th June to 4th July 2016.
